Machine Learning Engineer, Trust & Safety

Vercel · Hybrid - San Francisco, New York City

Vercel provides agentic infrastructure that enables developers and AI agents to build, deploy, and run software at scale, serving customers such as OpenAI, PayPal and millions of developers worldwide. The Machine Learning Engineer role on the Trust & Safety Engineering team focuses on creating production‑ready systems that detect and stop abusive behavior across Vercel’s platform. Day‑to‑day work involves designing and operating reliable, scalable services—including training and feature pipelines, model serving, and evaluation frameworks—while translating both classical ML and large language model prototypes into hardened code. The position splits roughly 80% engineering and 20% modeling, requiring end‑to‑end ownership from model integration through deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Collaboration with security, product, and infrastructure partners is essential to turn abuse patterns into operational defenses. The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco or New York City with three days per week in the office. Ideal candidates have five or more years of software engineering experience building large‑scale production systems, proficiency in Python plus JavaScript/TypeScript or Go, hands‑on experience with ML infrastructure such as training pipelines, feature stores, or LLM serving, and preferably a background in trust‑and‑safety, fraud, or abuse prevention.
